Painting is a way of sharing my thinking with others using oils, watercolors, pastels, or acrylics. I grew up in the heart of the Shenandoah Valley where the Blue Ridge mountains and Shenandoah River established in my memory visual landscapes beyond compare. I feel these early outdoor images were rich stimulation for drawing and painting. After studying with Mort Traylor at Virginia Art Institute I completed my Bachelor of Fine Arts under graduate degree and Master of Interdisciplinary Studies graduate degree in the visual arts at Virginia Commonwealth University. Today, ideas slide over each other in layers that create compositions. The designs challenge the ideas along with the style of the paint application which can be splashed or tightly worked. Color and value are my primary elements for transforming information that reflects mood, volume, space, time and even spiritual implications. All these act as notes to be heard in orchestration with each other as they are woven together tightly on the canvas or page.
